Papeete, May 18th, 2022

– IMPORTANT UPDATE –

In response to improving health conditions, the State and local authorities have further eased the requirements of entry into French Polynesia. See the official decree.

FOR TRAVELERS DEPARTING FROM HONOLULU, LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANCISCO, SEATTLE, NOUMEA AND AUCKLAND TO FRENCH POLYNESIA

VACCINATED TRAVELERS: Tests are no longer required

  • Individuals with a completed vaccination schedule are now exempt from the requirement to take an antigen or RT-PCR test prior to arrival.
  • Important: When the traveler is over 18 years old, in order for the vaccination schedule to be recognized as complete beyond 9 months, he must have received an additional dose (booster). In other words, when a traveler has completed a full vaccination (1 dose Janssen or 2 doses Pfizer / Moderna / Astrazeneca ), he will have to receive a booster shot before traveling to French Polynesia if his last dose is 9 months old or more. Only a booster is required, it is not needed to redo a complete vaccination process even if this 9 months deadline is exceeded.

UNVACCINATED TRAVELERS: Tests are maintained and the declaration of compelling reasons no longer required (except in the orange zone)

  • Unvaccinated travelers over 12 years of age coming from a country classified in green or orange zone and going to French Polynesia will have to perform an RT-PCR test less than 72 hours or an antigen test in less than 48 hours prior to departure.
  • The declaration of compelling reasons will be removed for travelers aged 12 years and older who are unvaccinated or who have an incomplete vaccination schedule.
  • Minors under 12 years of age are also exempt from declaring a compelling reason and from testing under French regulations.
  • However, unvaccinated travelers traveling between French Polynesia and countries classified in the orange zone (in both directions) are still subject to a declaration of compelling reasons controlled by the airlines company upon boarding.

FOR TRAVELERS WITH A STOPOVER OR TRANSIT IN THE UNITED STATES

ALL TRAVELERS: Tests are maintained

  • For all travelers  (vaccinated or not) flying through the United States must comply with U.S. entry requirements. Therefore, for all travelers aged 2 years and older, in transit or on a stopover in the United States, it is still mandatory to perform an antigen test (or RT-PCR) less than 24 hours prior to departure (the day before or the day of departure).
  • Full vaccination: comply with the most restrictive regulations in effect between the traveler’s final destination and transit country.

UNVACCINATED TRAVELERS: declaration of compelling reasons no longer required (except in the orange zone)

  • The declaration of compelling reasons will be removed for travelers aged 12 years and older who are unvaccinated or who have an incomplete vaccination schedule.
  • Minors under 12 years of age are also exempt from declaring a compelling reason.
  • However, unvaccinated travelers traveling between French Polynesia and countries classified in the orange zone (in both directions) are still subject to a declaration of compelling reasons controlled by the airlines company upon boarding.

REMINDER: On departure from French Polynesia, travelers must comply with their country’s entry restrictions and be tested in some cases.
